The Heading Game

Back to Activities

Description
•Play starts with a player tossing the ball to a teammate’s head.
•Once the ball leaves the hand, only the head can be used by either player.
•Attacking team attempts to score over the line by heading the ball passed defenders.
•Defenders can make saves with their hands or intercept with their hands only.
•attackers can head the ball back and forth as many times as they would like before they take a shot.

Progression:
•You may need to require the defenders to fall back to their goal line before being able to make a save. this will provide the attacking team with more space and make heading easier.
•You may also allow the attackers to first serve the ball to themselves.

Coaching Points
•Good heading technique: Head through the ball, ‘whip’ upper body, shoulders square to target.
•Run into good attacking angles.
•Counter attack quickly after a save is made.
