Description
•The field is broken into the areas as shown (Not perfect thirds as the defending third is bigger)
•Ball starts with the keeper of the white team, they try to move the ball up field, passing it over each line, until they can take a shot on goal.
•When the ball is played into the final, attacking third, one midfield player may move in and support the pass.
•If defending team wins the ball, they try to get a shot off. during this sequence, players may run outside of their third, and the ball does not need to be passed over each line.
•Offsides line is the top of the box.
Coaching Points
•Since the attacking team is ‘numbers up’ in every third they should be able to get a clear picture of how the ball is to be moved up the field.
•Stress good team shape, angles and distance of support, as well as attempting to unbalance the defending team.
